How to Write and Publish Your Own E-book And Why You Should

Because of the high printing and distribution costs associated with publishing a regular paper book, a better Online method has been developed.

• This better method is the creating of electronic books or "E-Books."  

• Because more people are buying computers for business and personal use then ever before.  Every day, 1,000's of new people join the Internet world.

• E-books are better for publishers because of the costs mentioned above, the ease of creation, and the immediate publication possibilities.

• Also it is a very exciting way to reach the WHOLE world in a short time with information via the Internet.

• Plus, if you sell information, this is a great vehicle with which to share your ideas and publications and to use for advertising purposes.

 A simple explanation would be to say that an E-book is a book, report, or publication written on a computer and saved to a CDRom, a floppy disk, or to a web site.

How do E-books work?

• Depending, on the type and complexity of the creation software program used, the author can present to the reader a table of contents or a list of topics from which the reader can select.  

With just a few keystrokes, the reader can instantly access the desired material. 

• You can jump ahead or back one page of text at a time.  

When the reader clicks on a hyperlink [specially linked text], they will have the capability to go to a certain page, word, line, topic, or any other unique location. 

These hyperlinks enable the person reading the book to move around in the book just as if he were reading a printed book.

• Other commands allow the reader to pull up menus, access help windows, answer questions, mark certain selections and accomplish other tasks.

Easily!  Today, we have excellent E-book writing software that takes almost all of the work out of the html process.

• You can design your E-book as a web page with your web creation software, then insert it into your E-book.

• You can design your E-book right in your word processor or even in your web page software, then insert your work into your E-book.

• You can insert any text, sound, or picture file you want.

1.  After highlighting something, you can use "Control + C" to copy it and use "Control + V" to paste it into your E-book software.

2.  With some e-book software programs you can insert text "directly" from the internet and just about from anywhere by using your E-book software commands.

Here's a few more reasons why publishing electronic books makes sense:

1.  They are less expensive than conventional publishing. To get the price of any printed book below $1.00 each, you would have to have five to ten thousand printed at one time. 

• The price of your test electronic book can be practically "0" except for counting the cost of your initial E-book software purchase. 

•  After that, your only expense per copy is the cost of the CDRoms, or floppy disks. Mail order supply houses sell floppy disks for as little as 19 cents apiece for 5.25" DSDD
  disks in lots of 500 or 1000. If you only buy 100, the cost may be 25 cents apiece. 

• You can have your customer download your eBook from your web site...for no cost involved to you, except for your monthly hosting fee. That way you have to mailing costs at all...and your customer gets there eBook immediately!

2.  You can edit or change the contents of your unsold books at any time!  New information can be added or obsolete data can be removed using the text editor. You would, of course, have to copy the edited version of your work to the new CD's or disks.

3. Produce only the books you need: Assemble each book only when an order comes in for that book! It only takes 2 or 3 minutes. This also solves the editing problem mentioned above. By having only a "master" book, you only have to make additions or deletions of text to one book.

4.  If large quantities are needed for any reason, commercial CDRom or floppy disk duplication companies can turn out large numbers of your book at a very reasonable cost Still far less than conventional printing.

5.  There are several E-book libraries and publishers on the Internet to help you find a market for your book. Dealers of share ware and retail programs are now including sections in their catalogs for E-books.

6 . Mailing costs are greatly reduced. Your book on a CDRom or 5.25 inch floppy disk can be mailed alone in a 6 x 9 inch envelope using a .57¢ first class stamp. 

• It is usually more profitable, however, to use protective mailers, and to include further sales literature with your CD or disk.

• This mailer provides much more protection for your E-book, but may raise the weight to the next postage unit.
